Particular Moments

More Stars than There are

Tag: regret

so help me God

when I was just a boy,
I thought I’d live and die
exhorting goodness, being through and through,
a protector of Innocence.

but as just a man,
I find myself losing Faith
in this world of sin—
promises of my crusader days
empty or broken.

now, I pray that I die not
having only been a hypocrite,
swinging like a hopeless pendulum
between self-destruct
and usurping.

Amen.

Late New Beginnings

Fireworks
Up
In Air,

Exuberantly
Succinct,
Leaving one
Dazed, staring glassy-eyed
Into weightless fumes.

The many aggregates
Of last year
And those
Of the many years
Before it
Linger on—

Into yet
Another
Set of days—

New year, Same you;
Can’t have Enough
Unfinished—

Nothing but
Rusty
Old chains.

But love,
Do
Feel different,
For destined
We are
To Hope
And to make Believe:

With the Advent
Of this New Year,
Our slatesĀ
Are once more
RenderedĀ  Pristine.

The Sunshine Missing

Wishing to get clean

Once again,

I stand in the shower—

Looking at

Countless droplets

Sliding down

My wax-like skin ,

I wondered

Would they really,

Grazing swiftly past,

With them carry

My Filth away?

Wishing to Rewind

Back to the Swell Ways,

Yet all I want

Is to Forget;

Craving to be Saved,

But I know Sunshine

Is

Days

Away.
